Ambassador program

Three months in, the ambassador channel is quiet and somebody suggests better swag. Swag was never the reason anybody joined, and it is definitely not the reason anybody stays.

Part 1

People join for status, not stuff

The thing an ambassador actually wants is to be visibly associated with something, to know things before other people, and to be listened to. Merchandise is a token of that, not the substance, and treating it as the substance is why programmes fade.

Do this: Give ambassadors one thing nobody else gets: early access, a direct line, or their name on something. Then keep doing it.

Part 2

Twelve engaged beats two hundred signed up

Programmes recruit broadly because the number looks good in a deck, and then nobody has a relationship with anybody. A dozen people you actually know will outproduce a list of two hundred every quarter.

Do this: Cap your next intake at fifteen and speak to each of them personally. The programme gets smaller and starts working.

Part 3

Give them something to do this week

Vague ambassadorship dies quietly. A specific, small, recurring ask keeps people in the habit: answer questions in the new members channel, review one feature, host one call.

Do this: Write the weekly ask down. If you cannot name it in one sentence, your ambassadors cannot either.

Part 4

Let people leave without it being awkward

Life gets busy and people go quiet, and a programme with no exit turns into a list of ghosts that makes everything look dead. A term with an end date lets people rejoin later instead of disappearing.

Do this: Set a six month term with a clear end. Renewal is a conversation rather than an obligation.
